Plato, Einar Thorsteinn and the elements

In January 2019 our head designer, Thorunn, was invited to do be an "artist in residence" at the Icelandic Museum of Design, where she would study the work of late architect/mathematician/philosopher Einar Thorsteinn. Einar Thorsteinn was fascinated by geometric phenomenon called "Platonic Solids".The symmetrical elegance of the Platonic Solids results from each geometric shape having equal lengths and angles on all sides. The ancient Greek philosopher Plato (who they're named after) aligned these unique forms with the elemental building blocks that make up our material world—Earth, Air, Fire and Water. These 5 elements have throughout the centuries been connected to various spiritual practices, -which Einar Thorsteinn was also a huge fan of. Thus... the outcome of Thorunn's residency was a new collection of candles, based on the Platonic solids, called ELEMENTSEach ELEMENTS candle is imbued with scent and color to reflect its poetry and power.

The ELEMENTS candles will be available soon! Stay tuned for further updates.
